About Us

 

Jerome Barry began his musical career as a student at the Boston Conservatory and the Boston University School of Fine and Applied Arts. In Europe he attained a diploma from the Goethe Institute in Germany, and later went to Italy to attend the Santa Cecilia Conservatory of Music in Rome, Italy.   He studied with the renowned Luigi Ricci, Romeo Arduini and Paolo Silveri, as well as Gérard Souzay and Pierre Bernac in Paris. His career took him next to Israel where he sang in more than 300 concerts, including recitals, oratorio, opera and orchestral concerts.

  

His exceptional knowledge of many languages (he speaks nine, and can sing in twenty-seven) and performance and eclectic repertoire have gained him much prestige and recognition. His fluency and his mastery of the various styles of music has endeared himself to European audiences. He has given master classes all over the world, is a laureate of the McClosky Institute of Voice and has been on the faculties of Tel Aviv University, Northeastern University, Tufts University, the University of Maryland, and American University.

 

Barry has devoted his life to reaching out to various countries and has achieved this mission through the embassies. Barry's thematic programming have been instrumental in attaining much support within the international community, including Composers in Exile for the German government and programs for the Russian Federation, Austria, Mexico, Canada, France, Romania, Hungary, Poland, the United States, the Netherlands and many other countries. 

 

Through Barry’s leadership and tutelage, along with a dedicated Board of Directors, The Embassy Series has grown from an initial season featuring a six-concert series to producing a thirty-one concert series at 20 different embassies and ambassador residences.  Over the past fourteen years, Barry has maintained and cultivated numerous relationships with the ambassadors of many nations.  He has stayed loyal to his initial vision and mission of The Embassy Series which is “to establish an international concert series of the highest quality, performed at an embassy or ambassador’s residence, while at the same time keeping ticket prices to a minimum in order to attract patrons from all socio-economic backgrounds living in the Nation’s Capital”.  Jerome Barry is a true ambassador of good will.
