Ian K. Portnoy, Partner, McKenna, Long & Aldridge

 

Ian's practice involves the representation of not-for-profits, international business transactions, and privatization activities. Ian has considerable experience with large scale real estate projects including joint development projects involving mass transit facilities, often in the form of public/private joint ventures. Ian, most recently was the keynote speaker at a conference in Tokyo for Japanese CEOs which conference dealt with effective communication for Japanese CEOs and the effect of cultural differences on cross-border mergers and acquisitions.

Supplementing Ian's hands-on, practical experience is his service as Senior Editor of the National Property Law Digest, the Digest of Environmental Law, and National Financing Law Digest. Among his numerous publications include an article focusing on Public/Private Partnerships titled "Developing with a Public Agency Partner."

Ian is also an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association having served as an arbitrator for over fifteen years.

In addition to Ian's immersion in his field of law, he plays a significant role in the larger Washington community. He is on the board, audit and executive committee of the Washington public television and radio stations. He is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Embassy Series, the Dumbarton Concert Series, Inner-City Inner-Child and the Capital Fringe Festival. He is member of Leadership Washington, was Chair of the Potomac Conference on Economic Development and Technology and has been honored by Big Brothers for dedicated service and commitment to the Washington metropolitan area.
