David J. Umansky
David Umansky is an award winning communications professional with a deep understanding of how communications support the organization's mission and objectives. As the Smithsonian Institution's first Director of Communications, Senior vice president of Burson Marsteller, Director of Communications for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Federal Railroad Administration and Administrative Assistant to a U.S. Congressman, counseled the senior management of public and nonprofit institutions, corporations and government agencies, developed and implemented strategic communications programs, crisis management systems and successfully managed a wide variety of crises. He represents clients before regulatory agencies, the Congress, state legislatures, local governments and develops grassroots networks to support clients and provides media and presentation training for corporate executive and government officials.
As a reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Umansky was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. He has taught and lectured at George Washington and Temple Universities and has been a contributor to the Encyclopedia Britannica. Umansky serves of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.
